Paris Europa is a high-end men’s clothing store located on the first level of the Philadelphia Building. This project was one of the first redevelopment efforts by Goldman Properties to help revitalize the area of Center City just east of Broad Street. The store’s interiors are rendered in rich tones and natural materials suggesting the retailer’s approach to men’s clothing styles. Cherry wood casework, wool carpet, and glazed walls provide an appropriate setting for the display of elegant fabrics and accessories. The long west facade on Juniper Street is used to mount displays in each of the window bays. The frosted plexiglass backdrop panels, set in metal frames, filter light and partially screen the interior of the store from the street. The original painted plaster and coffered ceiling, although beautiful, was badly damaged and the cost to completely restore it was not in the budget. Our solution was to devise a ceiling scheme which reveals a portion of the original ceiling and allows for a concealed installation of the lighting and mechanical systems.
