This project is a conversion of a multi-unit apartment building into a single-family house. The building was substantially demolished and rebuilt from the basement to the third floor. Free from the constraints of the former floor plan, the interior was re-imagined. The rear of the building was removed and reconstructed as a glassed frame. The stair was moved to the center of the floor plate and large skylights were installed in the roof which center on the open well. The stair is open on all levels and the first floor landing does not connect with the common wall thus allowing light to reach down to the basement level. New systems and utilities were installed. A high velocity heating and cooling system was installed to allow minimal ducts and chases and discourage temperature imbalance.
